For decades art schools had no choice but to use poor reproductions of models from the Charles Bargue Drawing Course. Those days are gone. With the lithographed plates from this drawing course, fine art students will find the exact same models as those created in the 19^th century to better the skills of emerging artists.

Education

The Charles Bargue plates that we publish are faithful to the spirit of his work. They are a support to Academies and Private Ateliers, and instructors of classical drawing courses are well-versed in fully exploiting these Charles Bargue models. However, for those who study academic drawing outside an academy of art, we have created a course to make the most of the plates on offer.

Publications

All newly published plates are subject to quality control both for their visual appearance and for their pedagogical usefulness. The catalogue is expanded from month to month.

Certificates and guarantee

Each well-inspected plate is accompanied by a certificate indicating its origin and guarantees that it is a lithograph published as part of the Bargue Encore project.

Perfect quality

The differences between the plates from the time of Bargue and Lemercier and the lithographs that we make available today are so minimal that even a well-trained eye would not be able to distinguish one from the other.

History

Rose Joseph Lemercier devoted much of his life to achieving a beautiful lithographic technique becoming the most popular printer in Paris. Each plate from the Bargue Course bears his handwritten signature.

Duchatel is a key figure in our technical quest for the exact approach required for the original plates to turn out so beautifully.

History

Aloïs Sennefelder
This author and playwright is considered to be the inventor of lithography. Several accounts regarding how he came upon the basic principles of printing with water and ink are subject to further research.

Other Projects

Let’s not stop there!
A few other drawing courses from the period of Charles Bargue deserve special mention, and we intend to give them their due place alongside that of Bargue. Although less potent pedagogically, the course created by Julien is worthy of discussion.
